SPRING RACING CARNIVAL

The spring racing carnival is upon us here in Melbourne, and to help celebrate I've posted a few tracks that are constantly used throughout the carnival (on ads etc)... a bit of laugh, but still worth a look.

Flight Facilities - Crave You feat Giselle (Original Mix)

Flight Facilities - Crave You ft. Giselle (The C90s Remix)

Planet Funk - Chase The Sun (Original Mix)

Remember how those racing ads used Planet Funk's 'Chase the Sun' and ruined it for everyone? This is an example of it being used in the best way possible... what a darts anthem.

BAMBAATAA FRIDAY THE 13th PARTY @ LOUNGE feat. DAVE PHAM (STABLE MUSIC)

BAMBAATAA FRIDAY THE 13th PARTY @ THE LOUNGE (UPSTAIRS)
feat. DAVE PHAM (STABLE MUSIC)

Out of the darkness come all of the scariest villians, the strangest sounds and the strangest oif vibes. Bambaataa embraces this as a night of music and mayhem. A Symphony for the senses.

DAVE PHAM (STABLE MUSIC)
Dave Pham began chasing his musical aspirations by collecting vinyl in the early nineties. This collection merely began as Dave couldn’t quite find the music he sought after on any other format. For many years he only had the use of a very primitive stereo and one rather beaten up old turntable. After befriending a local Dj who lent Dave his decks, he began his mixing expedition and never looked back. Over 10 years have past, and since these humble beginnings Dave Pham has become on of Australia’s most sought after artists.

At first Dave made his name in the techno world, choosing to play harder, noisier and more challenging sounds than his pears. This remains Dave’s preference to this day and he always draws a crowd of fans who go there to hear what amazing tracks he will pull from his bag of tricks. Since 2000, Dave has been experimenting with crossing Techno with other genres of music such as Electro and Experimental sounds and although the ride was rough with fans at the beginning, the new style he was playing soon began to draw even a larger crowd.

In 2009 Dave is now received by audiences, other Deejay’s and promoters as being the most versatile Deejay around who is perfect for support, or main act, and can set the tone of the whole night.

ROYAL ASSEMBLY feat. CHRISTIAN VANCE & QUALÉ

CHRISTIAN VANCE

The layered, emotionally driven sounds of Christian Vance are instantly recognisable. Performing solidly over the last decade as a live electronic music act in various forms within the Australian electronic music community, he has gained the respect of many artists and DJs from around the globe. Having been booked as the main support act for DJs including Carl Craig, Joris Voorn, Kenny Larkin, Derrick May, Kevin Saunderson, Jeff Mills, and live artists such as Aril Brikha, Alex Smoke, Vince Watson and Fabrice Lig, his ability lies not only in entertaining but also drawing the crowd deeper into his own sound. Each set is organic, unique. He chooses to take people on an excursion into his sensual world of electronic dancefloor improvisation.

The son of an Austrian immigrant, a rhythm guitarist of a popular Aussie 1960s rock band, Vance was regularly seen at home tinkering with a Roland Dr. Rhythm drum machine plugged into his father’s amplifier. He never quite took to traditional music. Even after a decade with the guitar and classical voice training, it was the sound of early Techno and acid house mix tapes brought home by his Uncle studying in Europe in the late 80’s that aroused the love for analogue synthesizers and the dancefloor. He later borrowed his Uncle’s Korg workstation and formed a band with schoolmates, Phunk De Sonique, that were to play regularly for many years including appearances at large Festival events such as Two Tribes.

His electric musical diet ranges from Ryuichi Sakamoto, Brian Eno, Chuck Berry and David Byrne to Herbie Hancock, Fela Kuti, Disco (Arthur Russell style), Derrick May, Carl Craig and Fleetwood Mac (potentially sparked by an encounter with Stevie Nicks in a hotel pool as a toddler).

Vance’s music is identified by deep chord sequences and synced-up jazz beats over a constant synthetic pulse. The allure of this sound is in its inability to be categorised. Vance is all about the groove and the feel as opposed to the obsession with the technology itself. The seamless slippages from soundtrack-like atmosphere to Deep House, Jazz, Detroit Techno, Minimal-esque rhythms, broken beat and world music conglomerate, offering his audience a point of departure.

He's released tracks and EPs on Perspectiv, Haul, Versatile, Tsugi and Global Underground.

Vance is set for an European tour for in 2010 so don't miss this exclusive 2 hour live set before he jets off!

QUALÉ
Qualé (aka Seb Vanderbeken), born in France, has been a DJ for the last 14 years. Qualé developed his skills by playing in various clubs in France, Belgium and the UK, however, his music was influenced by the underground cultures from all over the world.

Throughout the years he played a diverse selection of electronic music - from Deep House to Hard Techno. Over the past two years Qualé has been developing and promoting the ‘Tchupa Tchup’ project, currently taking place every third Saturday of the month at the My Aeon club in Brunswick.

Qualé has been known for creating a unique atmosphere, spinning a selection of the latest Techno tracks combined with Progressive Minimal and Classic Techno.

TOM EQ (DIRTY BIRD & JACK UNIONS RECORDS UK) @ BAMBAATAA

BAMBAATAA PRESENTS TOM EQ (DIRTYBIRD & JACK UNION RECORDS UK)
Dirtybird Records are celebrating 5 years and to celebrate, are touring to promote their highly anticipated 3 CD set "5 Years of Dirtybird", being released on April 19th.

‘Dirtybird’ has always been synonymous with sweaty bass-lines, quirky ideas, and bumpin funk. It is only fitting that a label based on a philosophy of bringing smiles to the dance-floor was created by a party. In 2003, Christian Martin took a risk and bought a giant sound system on his credit card. The party was named after a drawing of a bird that Barclay Crenshaw (aka Claude VonStroke,) used to draw when he was a kid. The line-up was rounded out with Christian’s brother Justin Martin and his room-mate Worthy. All four DJs were tired of the same old San Francisco vocal house that they heard everywhere they went. The grand idea was to change the landscape of San Francisco house music by throwing an epic free party in the park based on this new sound. The result was only seven people showing up to this first “epic” event.

Tom EQ has been extremely busy in the past 3 years releasing remixes of Claude Von Stroke, Wongo, Dizzee Rascal, The Huskies, Scott Cooper, Jak Z, Aout6 and a shit load more.

Tom has also just begun with his latest project along side Jeff Doubleu, The Potato Heads. This year they've already released huge tracks suck as Trumpet Dance, Get Up and Don't slip, which have been doing the round across dancefloors all over the world.

Zodiac Cartel - "Tom EQ's rocking my world of late and this is no exception - really well produced & less clownstep than much of the fidget that's a round right now"

Darren Gerhold - Galaxy Radio "Superb, In da Bag!."

Tweak - Flass 104 Iceland "Tom EQ is on Fire!!!."

Acid Jacks - Trouble & Bass "I'm really diggin Tom EQ's stuff."

Jon Carter - "Cool Stuff."

Oliver Lang (Azuli / Toolroom) - "wicked little piece of cheeky jackin stuff 5/5"

Terry Mullan (Speakerphreaker) - "Tom EQ on Point as usual"

Tom EQ - "Various press releases have called my style "jacking electro glitch bass funk" others have stated "jackin’ beats, chunky drums and driving bass", some have labeled me as fidget.

... Whatever you want to call it, its music for the dancefloor which doesn't take itself too seriously"
